The companies behind the FutureGen 2.0 carbon capture and storage project are negotiating a deal to buy parts of an idled power plant in Morgan County, Ill., saying it will help them continue work on the Energy Department-funded demonstration.
The future of the pilot project has been under a cloud since Missouri-based Ameren Corp. announced earlier this month that it would close down the Meredosia Energy Center at the end of 2011 in order to comply with new air quality rules.
