The Global CCS Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of Fiona Nicholls and Marghanita Johnson (below) as Community & Stakeholder Engagement Associates.

Our Members and Clients will benefit from the extensive experience and capabilities both Fiona and Marghanita bring with them, including:

Fiona Nicholls

Fiona NichollsFiona joins the Institute as a Community & Stakeholder Engagement Associate following a successful career in External Relations, Sustainability Development and Environmental Science. In 2014 Fiona founded F.N. Sustainability Pty Ltd, and has since worked with CEO’s on a variety of strategic management issues including development of strategy papers for their Boards on improving environmental and business outcomes, strategies for multi-stakeholder projects and independent reviews of programme performance.  

Starting her career in Environmental Science roles in government and private organisations, Fiona then moved to Rio Tinto in 1994 where she held a variety of roles across 19 years. From Principal Environmental Scientist Fiona progressed to General Manager roles in Sustainable Development and External Relations before becoming Vice President External Relations for Rio Tinto Energy in 2010.

Fiona is skilled in achieving multi-disciplinary collaboration, utilising an inclusive and facilitational approach, based on personal rather than positional power, and has a leadership style that inspires strong personal and team loyalty with the ability to outreach in both technical and commercial situations. 

Fiona is an experienced executive and non-executive Director on public, private and not for profit boards with a sound knowledge of corporate governance and a successful track record of influencing executive business decisions, and is currently a Director of Behaviour Innovation Pty Ltd and a Member of the CSIRO Land & Water Flagship Advisory Council.

Fiona holds a Bachelor of Natural Resources (Honours) from the University of New England, a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Directors (AICD) Company DIrectors Course and in 2013 completed the AICD Chairman's Mentoring Programme.

 

Marghanita Johnson

 Marghanita JohnsonAs a Community & Stakeholder Management Associate for the Institute, Margharita brings almost 20 years' experience working in stakeholder management, communication and sustainability, predominantly in energy and manufacutring sectors.

Most recently, Marghanita has combined her my engineering problem solving skills with political and policy acumen as Director of her private consultancy, Grove Solutions where she has provided stakeholder management and communications solutions to a broad range of clients including industry associations, disability services, government owned corporations and emerging renewable providers.

With a track record of mitigating reputational risks, leveraging relationships and delivering commercial value for my internal and external customers. Marghanita is known for her personable engagement at all levels, a high level of professional integrity and passion for organisational sustainability.

Previous to running her own consultancy, Margharita held senior positions in Communications and External Relations for Pacific Aluminium, Climate Change and External Policy for Rio Tinto Aluminium and in sustainable development and environmental engineering.

Marghanita holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours 1st Class - Environmental) and a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of Western Australia and is currently a Non-Executive Director for ECollaboration Ltd, a not for profit company providing professional support in ecological and environmental services, environmental education, stakeholder liaison and community development.
