Environmental Management for Power Capture in the Evaluate stage

Objective

The objectives under this stage are to:

  • Revise consent and approvals register (if necessary)
  • Undertake an environmental feasibility / due diligence study

Major Deliverables

The major deliverables under this stage are:

  • An Updated Consents and Approvals Register
  • An Environmental Feasibility / Due Diligence Study

An Updated Consents and Approvals Register

  • The consents and approvals register should provide details of the various consents and approvals which have been identified as required for the development of the project.
  • Therefore, the specific tasks associated with updating the consents and approvals register (as a minimum) are to:
    • Update the current status of the consent / approval, providing a summary of the work undertaken on generating the documents to support the application for the consent / approval
    • Update the summary of any formal / informal discussions with the appropriate granting authorities / regulators
    • Update the identification of ‘gaps’ where consents / approvals are likely to be required for the development of the project, but are not currently covered by existing consents / approvals applications procedures (if possible, and where ‘gaps’ have been closed, the evidence for the resolution of the ‘gaps’ should be provided)

Environmental Feasibility / Due Diligence Study

  • The environmental feasibility / due diligence study should aim to build on the environmental pre-feasibility study, such that full evaluation of the requirements of the regulatory and environmental issues can be undertaken.
  • This evaluation should therefore allow for the avoidance of any identified ‘fatal flaws’ / ‘show-stoppers’ to the development of the project.
  • In addition, the evaluation should allow for the cost / time implications associated with the requirements of the regulatory and environmental issues to be fully understood.
  • Therefore, the specific tasks associated with the environmental feasibility / due diligence study (as a minimum) are to:
    • Provide a description of the selected project options
    • List the specific requirements associated with the necessary key consents / approvals which are likely to be required throughout the various project stages, and evaluate the potential implications associated with these requirements (in terms of cost / time)
    • List the key environmental issues associated with the development of the project, and evaluate the potential implications associated with these issues (in terms of cost / time)
    • List the remaining residual risks with the development of the project associated with the requirements of the regulatory and environmental issues
