Enhanced Oil Recovery

Location: Texas, United States of America

Technical aspects

  • 1.3 million tonnes per annum of carbon dioxide (CO2) is re-used in this project.
  • CO2 is captured from five gas processing facilities including Mitchell, Gray Ranch, Puckett, Pikes Peak and Terrell.
  • Once captured, dehydrated and compressed, the CO2 is transported via the Val Verde and CRC pipelines to the Sharon Ridge oil field for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Secondary sinks for the CO2 are the SACROC, Cogdell and Reinecke floods.

Key deliverables

  • Reportedly, enhanced oil recovery at these fields commenced as early as 1972.
