Underpinning the report delivered to G8 leaders at their June 2010 Summit in Muskoka, Canada, this Institute report provides an update on the global status of large-scale integrated carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. The status of 80 large-scale integrated projects is analysed and then compared against the G8 criteria endorsed in July 2009.

Ongoing monitoring and reporting of the evolving landscape of CCS projects is required to assess progress towards commercial scale CCS deployment and the many factors that affect whether planned projects actually become operational. Towards this end, the Institute will publish a more comprehensive report on the overall status of CCS later in 2010, and will continue to undertake monitoring and reporting activities on the status of CCS to effectively inform both industry and government.
