Nihal Darraj joined the Institute as an intern in the External Affairs team in May, 2024. She transitioned into the role of CCS Data Analyst after completing her internship. Based in London, UK, she brings extensive expertise in carbon capture and storage, drawing on over 8 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
Prior to joining the Institute, Nihal worked as a CCUS development manager at Heidelberg Materials. Prior to that, she was a Senior Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer, specializing in oil and gas waste management, carbon dioxide storage, produced water re-injection, and petroleum engineering consulting. She has been an active leader in the professional community, co-founding and chairing the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Diversity and Inclusion Committee and chairing the SPE International Young Member Engagement Committee, where she focused on supporting students and young professionals globally. Additionally, she contributed to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as part of the group of experts on carbon neutrality.
Nihal is currently completing her PhD at Imperial College London, with a focus on CO2 storage in heterogeneous formations. She holds an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London and a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Gas and Petroleum Engineering from Alexandria University.
