Alberta Carbon Trunk Line moving forward in Alberta
The Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL), one of the world’s largest carbon capture and storage projects, announced in early August that it has secured funding and will be moving forward.
North West Redwater (NWR) and Nutrien, the world’s largest crop nutrient company, will supply CO2 from their operations. Wolf Carbon Solutions Inc (a subsidiary of Wolf Midstream) will construct and operate the capture, compression and transportation assets for the ACTL. CO2 will be captured from NWR’s newly completed Sturgeon Refinery and Nutrien’s Redwater Fertilizer facility and transported through a 240km pipeline to the Clive oilfield for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) which will be managed by Enhance Energy Inc. The construction of the pipeline is expected to start in 2018, with the first delivery of CO2 to the CO2 -EOR in Q4 2019. The system will initially flow 800 tonnes per day (tpd), and is expected to grow to 4,400tpd by the end of 2019.
