Global Status of CCS 2024 Report Launch
17th October 2024
On 15 and 16 October, the Global CCS Institute held two events for the launch of the Global Status of CCS 2024 Report.
Our annual report showcased key milestones achieved over the past year as carbon capture and storage (CCS) continues to expand on a global scale. This technology plays an increasingly critical role in the journey towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and the fight against climate change. The report outlined both opportunities and challenges, offering valuable data aimed at informing and accelerating the deployment of CCS—an established emissions reduction solution essential to achieving global climate targets.
Key insights from the report included:
- Significant advancements in carbon management projects worldwide, with notable progress in the US, Europe, the Middle East, China, and Southeast Asia.
- Emerging business models, new policy initiatives, and robust public-private partnerships that have been driving the acceleration of carbon management technologies.
- Ongoing challenges, including community concerns, infrastructure development, and the growing need for expanded geologic storage and regulatory frameworks.
