David Kearns is the Country Manager Australia and New Zealand in the Institute’s Strategic Analysis, Growth and Engagement team, based in Melbourne, having commenced in this role in November 2023. David provides technical guidance and strategic insight for the Institute, as well as quality oversight for the Institute’s knowledge products.

David is a technical expert in CO2 capture technologies and, in prior roles, has advised the Institute’s members and clients around the world on the technical, economic and strategic aspects of deploying CCS. He has authored multiple thought leadership publications on CCS technologies and published multiple research papers on pressure swing adsorption – a technology used in CO2 capture.

David has over 25 years of experience across the energy, industrial and research sectors, including consulting, engineering design, research, and plant operations. Since 2009 David has focussed on technical carbon, energy, and sustainability consulting for clients in the coal, oil and gas, pulp and paper, electricity generation and cement manufacturing sectors.

David is also an experienced presenter, university lecturer and industry trainer in CO2 capture, sustainable processing, process design and renewable energy technologies.

David holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Chemical Engineering, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University, Australia. David is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy and an Honorary Fellow of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
