Matt joined the Institute as a consultant, bringing expertise in international energy and climate solutions by working across technical, policy, and market domains. Since first examining the dynamics for carbon capture technology in 2003, he has focused his career on analysis-driven, collaborative approaches that accelerate technology development and deployment.
Prior to his current role, Matt served in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, where he implemented international engagement initiatives on carbon management. Earlier in his career, he directed government consulting efforts on strategic planning, risk management, and program evaluation. His work spans energy systems, mitigation technologies, and resilience approaches, translating technical and policy insights into practical options.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri and a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
