On 2 February, the Global CCS Institute hosted a webinar exploring the rapidly growing role of CO₂ shipping in global carbon capture and storage (CCS) deployment. Shipping is steadily emerging as an attractive alternative for CO₂ transport, offering economic advantages over long‑distance pipeline transport as well as greater logistical flexibility and volume versatility. Today, four CO₂ shipping vessels are already in operation, all servicing CCS projects connected to storage sites in the North Sea. As CCS activity continues to scale up worldwide, the expansion of CO₂ shipping is expected to accelerate in parallel.
During the session, experts from Northern Lights and DNV joined the Institute to discuss the needs, opportunities, prospects, and current status of CO₂ shipping, and how it will support future CCS project development.
