Global CCS Institute Led Events at COP31
The Nordics as a Launchpad for Scaling Carbon Management
11 November 2026 | 11:30–12:15 | Nordic Pavilion
Organisers: Global CCS Institute and Research Council of Norway
The Nordic region has become an important ground for carbon capture, transport and storage, offering lessons for countries seeking to develop and scale carbon management. This session will explore what can be learned from early Nordic projects, including the policy and regulatory conditions that have supported deployment, the role of research and innovation, and the development of cross-border CO₂ infrastructure. Speakers will consider how these lessons can help de-risk projects, reduce costs and strengthen emerging CCS markets around the world.
Malaysia’s Next Growth Frontier: The Role of CCS
11 November 2026 | 15:30–16:30 | Malaysia Pavilion
Organisers: Global CCS Institute and Malaysia’s Ministry of Economy
Malaysia’s economic and energy transition ambitions are creating new opportunities for investment, industrial development and regional leadership. This session will examine how emerging growth sectors and low-carbon technologies can contribute to the priorities of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan, before focusing on the role of carbon capture and storage. Drawing on regional experience and insights from the South East Asia CCS Accelerator, the discussion will explore how carbon management can support Malaysia’s competitiveness, attract investment and contribute to the development of a lower-carbon industrial economy.
Enabling Cross-Border CCS: Policy, Science and Deployment
12 November 2026 | 15:30–17:00 | Republic of Korea Pavilion
As CCS deployment grows, international cooperation on CO₂ transport and storage will become increasingly important. This session will explore the policy, scientific and practical foundations needed to support cross-border CCS value chains. Bringing together perspectives from the IPCC, the UNFCCC, the Global CCS Institute, the Republic of Korea and industry, the discussion will consider how transboundary CCS is being addressed within international climate frameworks, the role of robust transport and storage systems, and what is needed to translate policy ambition into deployment at scale.
From NDCs to Net Zero: Unlocking CCS Opportunities and Investment
13 November 2026 | 15:00–16:30 | UNFCCC Side Event Room 8
Organisers: Global CCS Institute, CCS Brazil Association, Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN), The European Network of Excellence on Geological Storage of CO2 (CO2GeoNet)
As countries move from climate commitments to implementation, attention is turning to how CCS can contribute to Nationally Determined Contributions and industrial decarbonisation. This session will examine the global CCS project landscape, opportunities for further deployment and the role of geological storage in supporting future projects. Speakers will explore how national climate commitments can translate into investible opportunities, how storage resources can be identified and developed, and how governments, industry and finance can work together to accelerate CCS deployment at scale.
