Member Webinar | Enabling Steel Decarbonisation: The Role of CCUS and Shared Hubs

About

The Institute is delighted to invite you to join our Monthly Member Webinar series, where each month members and friends of the Institute gain insights from fellow members across a broad spectrum of topics in carbon capture and storage.

This month’s webinar features BHP, who will share their expertise on steel decarbonisation and the role of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) in enabling emissions reductions across the blast furnace route. As blast furnaces are expected to remain a major part of global steelmaking for decades, this session will explore how CCUS, alongside process optimisation and modification, can support practical pathways toward deep decarbonisation.

Drawing on BHP’s recent work on modified blast furnaces and insights from the Asian CCUS Hub Study, the discussion will examine the challenges of integrating CCUS into steelmaking operations and how emerging shared hub concepts can help address barriers related to scale, timing, and coordination, supporting near-term steel decarbonisation at scale.

Note: This webinar will not be recorded.
