On 27 May, the Global CCS Institute hosted a 30‑minute “CCS 101” webinar exploring the role of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in reducing emissions from the cement sector. As one of the most carbon‑intensive industries, cement accounts for around 8% of global CO₂ emissions.
Designed as an introductory session, the webinar provided a clear and accessible overview for those new to the topic or looking to build their understanding.
During the session, Claude Lorea outlined why decarbonising cement is particularly challenging and how CCS can support the sector’s transition. The discussion also covered current applications of CCS in cement, key enablers for scaling deployment, and emerging projects across the industry, followed by an audience Q&A.
