14 CO2 Storage and Transport Projects Selected Under the EU’s Projects of Common Interest and Projects of Mutual Interest

The European Commission has selected 14 CO2 transport and storage projects as part of its last list of Projects of Common Interests (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs). This number illustrates the will of the EU institution to support CCS development, in line with the Net-Zero Industry Act’s objectives.
Projects labelled as PCI or PMI can enjoy several benefits, including the accelerated permitting process and environmental assessment, along with being eligibility to EU grants under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy.
The 14 selected projects include:
- CO2 TransPorts – This project aims support CO2 capture, transport and storage from Rotterdam, Antwerp and the North Sea Port areas
- Aramis – A cross-border CO2 transport and storage project, where CO2 will be captured from the Rotterdam harbour area, and transported for storage at the Dutch continental shelf
- ECO2CEE – Cross-border CO2 transport and storage project which marks Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and the UK as possible storage sites
- Bifrost – This project will leverage Denmark for CO2 storage for emitters based in Germany, Poland and Denmark
- Callisto – Development of a Mediterranean-based CO2 hub storing emissions from France and Italy
- CCS Baltic Consortium – This consortium will develop a cross border CO2 project between Latvia and Lithuania
- Delta Rhine Corridor – This project will store CO2 from Germany and Rotterdam area to offshore storage sites off the Dutch coast
- EU2NSEA – EU2NSEA will develop a cross-border CO2 network developed between Belgium, Germany, Norway, Denmark, France, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden for storage in the Norwegian continental shelf
- GT CCS Croatia – This project will see CO2 transport pipeline be built in Croatia and Hungary, with underground storage in Hungary
- Norne – Norne aims to have CO2 transport infrastructure built for storage in Denmark, with emitters primarily from Denmark, Sweden, Belgium and Sweden, and the UK
- Prinos – Prinos will serve as a storage site for emissions from Greece, transported by pipeline from Belgium, Hungary, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Slovenia by ship
- Pycasso – This project will see the transport and storage of CO2 from emitters based in Spain and in France, for storage in France
- Northern Lights – Northern Lights is a cross-border project between several European capture initiatives, including Belgium, Germany, Ireland, France, and Sweden. CO2 will be transported by ship to a storage site on the Norwegian continental shelf.
- Nautilus CCS – The Nautilus project will capture and transport CO2 from Norway, France and Germany for storage in the North Sea.
The European Commission has submitted this list to the European Parliament and the Council that have between two and four months to adopt or reject it.
