Leading governments in the Asia Pacific region are building CCS into their strategies to achieve national climate and economic objectives. Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Korea have all promulgated laws related to CCS and Thailand has commenced a process to develop theirs. Investment in CCS projects is being supported through a mixture of regulations, carbon pricing and tax incentives that has enabled the first three CCS facilities to commence operation and FID to be reached on a further three. Over 60 more are in earlier stages of development.
Nations are working towards establishing transboundary CCS value chains where countries with limited storage capacity (Japan, South Korea, Singapore) send CO₂ for storage in countries with large resources (Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia).
