Maryem El Farsaoui joined the Global CCS Institute in November 2023 as the Business Development Lead in the MENA region. Holding 5 years’ experience in technical and commercial energy advisory, with a special focus on low-carbon hydrogen and CCUS, Maryem advised on several energy security and energy transition projects, working with key stakeholders including the US Department of Energy, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure along with other leading ministries and oil & gas companies.
She authored a number of policy papers including: “As Above So Below: The MENA Region’s CCUS Ambition towards Carbon Neutrality” in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and co-authored “The UAE’s Role in the Global Hydrogen Economy” in partnership with ADNOC, and the UAE’s MoEI. Maryem gained deep knowledge in the business environment in the UAE along with advanced skills in cross-sectoral market research during her time with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission in the Australian Consulate in Dubai.
Maryem holds a Master’s degree in International Relations with Distinction from the University of Wollongong in Dubai, with a focus on energy security. Her Master’s thesis studied the UAE's 2050 Energy Strategy to increase renewable energy use to 50% in 2050. Maryem started her International Relations journey in Al Akhawayn University, the first accredited liberal-arts university in Morocco, and through which she developed extensive connections with key researchers, practitioners and local industry experts.
