Distinguished Fellows

The Global CCS Institute as the world’s leading think-tank on carbon capture and storage, recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of CCS as a vital climate change mitigation technology. Conferring of the award of Distinguished Fellow of the Institute is honorary and is accorded to a select few people from time to time by the Board of Directors.

The Distinguished Fellows Program commenced in 2020.

Distinguished Fellows:

  • Are recognised as an expert in the CCS value chain and/or the disciplines and functions necessary to enable the deployment of CCS, including (but not limited to) law, economics, finance and policy options;
  • Have a positive reputation and standing that extends beyond a single country; and
  • Demonstrate consistent engagement of the highest calibre with decision makers and opinion formers to persuasively argue for the adoption of CCS supportive policies and measures.

Distinguished Fellows are invited to share their achievements and work through personal pages on the Institute’s website and are invited to support and assist the Institute in its pursuit of the accelerated deployment of CCS.

The inaugural awardees under the Distinguished Fellows Program are Dr Makoto Akai and Dr S. Julio Friedmann.
