CCS Commercial and Regulatory Frameworks: Lessons Learned from the CCS Experience in the United States

16th May 2023

Location(s): Virtual, Type(s): webinar

8 AM EDT (Washington D.C.) | 1 PM BST (London) | 2 PM CEST (Brussels) | 4 PM GST (Abu Dhabi)

The United States has been at the center of attention of the global CCS community, as effective supportive policies continue to spark remarkable activity in the CCUS space. More than half of all CCUS projects around the world are located in the US, and the government has been providing important financial supports for the clean energy economy, including CCUS. The Inflation Reduction Act alone will mobilise over USD 360 billion by 2032 (approximately EUR 330 billion). As CCUS technologies are gaining maturity and getting closer to being able to fulfill their potential in climate mitigation efforts, the attention of the international community is also focusing on Class VI well permits in the US that governs CO2 storage.

Join us on May 16 as we discuss  the policy, regulatory and legislative frameworks that has made such a difference for CCS deployment in the country.

With this webinar we will try to answer the following questions:

  • What are the regulations and policies that define CCUS playing field in the US?
  • What is needed in the future as the focus is shifting towards CO2 permanent storage and scaling up of the CCS market?
  • What can we learn from the US experience with the extensive pipeline infrastructure?
  • What can we learn from the US experience with CO2 use and storage permits?

Join the Global CCS Institute as we bring together government and policy experts to share insights on lessons learned, best practices and expectations for the future of CCS deployment in the region.
