Overview
On June 8, The Global CCS Institute added 10 CCS facilities to its global CCS facility database, bringing the total number of CCS facilities in various stages of development to 59 with a capture capacity of more than 127 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Together with the newly operational Alberta Carbon Trunk Line, there are now 21 facilities in operation, three under construction, and 35 in various stages of development.
During this online event CCS experts and project proponents will discuss and provide insights into the projects and the trends driving CCS development:
- Where are these projects are located?
- Who are their sponsors?
- What type of capture and storage projects are they?
- When will they be deployed?
- And, most importantly – Why are they happening now?

Speakers
Lynn Brickett - Carbon Capture Program Manager, U.S. Department of Energy
Lynn is the Carbon Capture Program Manager in the Office of Fossil Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. Her career has focused on environmental issues associated with fossil-fired power plants including: by-products, water, nitrogen oxides, mercury and carbon dioxide. Ms. Brickett was previously at NETL for 18 years, working as the Carbon Capture Technology Manager, Director of the Capture Division, Project Manager, and a researcher studying the environmental impacts of coal by-products. Prior to NETL, she worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines conducting research on bioleaching of copper ores, bio-oxidation of gold ores, and remediation of acid mine drainage.
Ms. Brickett received her B.S. degree in Environmental Science and her M.S. degree in Environmental Science and Management.
Ken Haney - EOR/CCS Manager, California Resources Corporate (CRC)
Ken is the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Manager for California Resources Corporation (CRC). He has 34 years of experience in upstream exploration and production with CRC, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum and Texaco. He has worked on projects and reservoirs in California, West Texas and New Mexico, as well as in Alberta, Canada and Columbia. His breadth of technical focus includes miscible and immiscible gas injection, thermal EOR, waterflood and primary operations in shale, clastic and carbonate reservoirs.
Specifically related to EOR with carbon capture and storage, Mr. Haney was the Reservoir Management Team Leader overseeing the Elk Hills CO2 target reservoirs for the 2010-12 Hydrogen Energy California (HECA) Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)/EOR joint project between Occidental Petroleum and SCS Energy LLC. Ken has worked in his current role, overseeing the Elk Hills EOR/CCS project, for two years.
Mr. Haney holds a B.S. in Geology and an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering.
William H. Barrett, P.E. - Commercial Director, Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, LLC
William Barrett is a Commercial Director in Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, LLC, a subsidiary of Occidental (Oxy). He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1988, and a MBA with concentration in International Business from the University of St. Thomas. Achievements in his 33 years of industry experience include setting records drilling short radius horizontal wells, managing assets
and technical personnel working oil and gas fields in the Mid-Continent states of the U.S., managing activities of the largest CO2 flooding operation in the world as the CO2 Project Manager of Oxy’s Permian Basin Division, managing a team to bring EOR technologies to California oil fields, and adding value to international assets working as a Vice President of Occidental de Colombia. Mr. Barrett has been involved in all aspects of the CO2 business including CO2 supply and distribution, the design and implementation of greenfield and brownfield CO2 EOR projects, and carbon capture, utilization and storage. In his current role as Commercial Director in Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, William is involved with efforts to advance leading-edge, low-carbon technologies and business solutions.

Patricia Loria - Senior Client Engagement Lead, Global CCS Institute
Patricia is the Global CCS Institute’s Senior Client Engagement Lead, based in Washington, D.C. She joined the Institute in 2018 and manages membership recruitment and support in the Americas, aiming to advocate for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and assist in implementation of CCS projects in the energy and industrial sectors. She is the global lead for the Finance sector and works primarily with utilities, coal, oil and gas, financial institutions, and technology companies.
Patricia is a seasoned marketing and business development professional with more than 20 years’ experience both in the private sector working primarily in the financial services and insurance industries in a global capacity, and for five years working in the international NGO sector facilitating on post-conflict development and climate mitigation.
Patricia received a Master’s in Business Administration from Darden Business School, University of Virginia, and a Master’s in Natural Resources from Virginia Tech’s Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability.
