Since 2013, the Petrobras Santos Basin Pre-Salt Oil Field CCS has commissioned four CO2 separation and injection systems aboard floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels anchored in the Santos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The CO2 is separated on site as part of natural gas processing. Since 2016, CO2 capture capacity is approximately 1 Mtpa. The captured CO2 is directly injected into the Lula and Sapinhoá oil fields for enhanced oil recovery. As of December 2016, the Santos Basin Pre-Salt development reached the milestone of four million tonnes of CO2 injected into pre-salt fields.
